Construction Is Underway
We’re working with the City of Decatur to bring Conxxus fiber to your neighborhood. Areas in red on this map may see Conxxus crews present at times for construction work of our fiber networks. All work conducted is permitted in advance by the City of Decatur.
Conxxus will provide printed construction notices to households as construction crews move into your area. Please watch for mailed notices as well as doorhangers at your residence to learn more.
1. BURYING THE CONDUIT
• Conxxus engineers and construction staff work together to design and build an underground fiber network.
• JULIE locates and excavations of public utilities are conducted within the public right-of-way according to permit guidelines.
• Construction crews use a directional boring machine to install conduit in the public right-of-way. These conduits act as pathways for fiber-optic cable. Though this process can be disruptive, restoration plans are in place to return the area to its original condition.
2. PLACING THE VAULTS
• Holes are dug to place “fiber vaults” along the public right-of-way. These vaults are necessary to provide dedicated services to each home.
• Crews will restore the area, weather permitting, after placing the vaults.
3. INSTALLING AND SPLICING THE FIBER-OPTIC CABLE
• Once the conduit is buried, crews push the fiber optic cable through it.
• Different crews then splice the fibers together creating a network, which connects to the Internet.
• The community is now ready for residential and business installations!
4. CUSTOMER SIGN-UP AND FIBER DROPS
• Customers can begin signing up for service during the construction process.
• After signing up, Conxxus schedules a fiber “drop,” including a JULIE for utility line discovery.
• After the utilities mark their underground lines, a Conxxus technician will place white flags in the resident’s property to designate where the fiber line will be placed.
• A “drop” consists of technicians burying a fiber line from the fiber vault to the outside of the resident’s home. This minimally invasive process does not require the resident to be present.
5. INSTALLATION AND SERVICE ACTIVATION
• Once construction is complete, Conxxus schedules installations for customers who have signed up.
• A fiber installation technician connects the fiber line outside the home to the fiber-optic equipment inside.
• The technician provides informational documentation and trains the customer on how to use the services they have purchased
